Developing Early Computer Science Concepts Through Play (PK-KDG) The ESC of Central Ohio, powered by LEGO® Education, is providing professional learning for PK/KDG educators in computer science to support the expansion of CS programs in PreK-12 schools that are aligned with Ohio state standards. Teachers will leave with a LEGO® Education Coding Express set, a teacher training kit, and a certificate confirming the completed 12 contact hours.
This course is free to any currently licensed teacher in Ohio.

explore ways a hands-on playful approach to learning can build teacher and student confidence in early computer science knowledge and skills
investigate standards aligned lessons designed to help students grow in their understanding of computing concepts such as sequencing, loops, cause and effect, etc.
develop a foundational understanding of computational practices and tips for integration in flexible and developmentally appropriate ways across the curriculum.
explore strategies in observing student understanding and ways to adjust the curriculum to meet the needs of different learners.
Project Goals Equity - Students in OH schools will have access to high-quality, project- based learning experiences that foster and develop Computer Science knowledge, skills and competencies.
Engagement - Students will be active in their own learning by engaging in project based hands-on activities that engage their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Efficacy - Teachers will be able to effectively facilitate hands-on, project- based learning experiences focused on Computer Science that are aligned to the Ohio state standards for CS.
Expansion - Successful implementation will lead to expansion of CS programs within schools where teachers have become advocates for computer science.
